Free summer courses for eligible high school students in Maine

Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is offering free college classes to eligible high school students in Maine this summer as part of the Maine Community College System (MCCS) Early College and Momentum from the Start programs.

The Early College program allows juniors and seniors in Maine to enroll in a free summer course at KVCC to earn credits while still in high school. All funding for the Early College program has been generously provided by the Maine Community College System, and students are only responsible for the cost of books and course materials.

The Momentum from the Start program is available to high school graduates attending KVCC in the next school year. Students will be able to get a head start on their college education by taking a free course this summer; allowing them to complete compulsory courses earlier and even reduce the time and money spent on their degree.

“This is a great opportunity for students to receive a solid educational foundation without the cost of tuition,” said CJ McKenna, associate dean of enrollment management at KVCC.

In addition to reducing the time and money spent on graduation, starting college early can also provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop their academic interests, while learning about potential college programs and opportunities. future career paths.

Summer courses available include chemistry, psychology, academic composition, quantitative reasoning, and more. To find out more about which early start option is right for them or to register, interested students can contact Flora Stack at (207) 453-5014.
