Karnataka pre-university schools and colleges will reopen for PUC class 10 and second year students (class 12) from January 1.
The decisions were taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on the reopening of PU schools and colleges in the state.
He said the advice given by the State Technical Advisory Committee for COVID-19 on reopening schools was discussed in detail for about an hour.
They suggested starting grades 10 and 12 (second PUC) from January 1 and providing education to students in grades six to nine through the Vidyagama program, he said.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said: âEveryone agreed unanimouslyâ¦ so it was agreed to start classes 10 and 12 from January 1 and Vidyagama for classes six to nine. students”.
In a tweet informing about the matter, the Chief Minister added that a decision to reopen schools for students in other classes would be taken after a review of the situation for 15 days.
Classes 10 and second PUC are crucial as students will be required to take board exams.
PU schools and colleges have remained closed since March just before the nationwide lockdown was first applied to tackle COVID-19.
State colleges and engineering schools reopened on November 17.
