Principals oppose disaffiliation of 40 colleges from the University of Punjab: the Tribune India
Abohar, July 9
The directors of three local colleges managed by the DAV management committee opposed the decision to transfer the affiliation of 40 colleges in Fazilka and Muktsar districts from the University of Punjab (PU) to another university.
Request intervention from PPCC President Sunil Jakhar, Rajesh Mahajan, Principal, DAV College, Rekha Sood Handa, Principal, Gopichand Arya Mahila College, and Urmil Sethi, Principal, DAV College of Education, said a high committee level had recommended changes in the governance structure of the UP. He had recommended that colleges located more than 200-250 km from Chandigarh be detached from the PU and affiliated with another public university. As a result, 40 colleges in Abohar, Fazilka, Malout, Gidderbaha, Jalalabad and Muktsar would be affected, they said.
Principals said it was unfair because many colleges in their area were established 40 to 50 years ago. DAV College, Abohar was established in 1960 and has been affiliated with PU for a long time. They said the idea of territorial restructuring had already been raised in 1999, which she opposed and the government had failed to implement the decision.
Do not limit the jurisdiction of the university: YAD
- Youth leader Akali Dal (YAD) Parambans Singh Romana on Friday demanded the withdrawal of the report of the UP Chancellor’s high-level committee, which proposed to disaffiliate around 200 colleges in seven districts of the Malwa belt.
- He said YAD and SOI members would hold a protest outside the VC office on July 12.
- “We will not tolerate any approach aimed at reducing the territorial competence of the university on the outskirts of UT. It is clear that the RSS wants to use the university to brainwash young people in the region according to its agenda, ”he said. – TNS
