University colleges in Mumbai will start on August 10′

Mumbai: The academic year for colleges in Mumbai has started to take shape with the proclamation of the latest results for Class 12. Giving clarification on the academic calendar, Dr. Vinod Patil, Controller of Examinations, University of Mumbai, said: “MU plans to ensure that all admissions processes are completed by August 8 and teaching resumes at institutions from August 10.”

Many undergraduate colleges have already released their merit lists after Mumbai University’s controversial decision to start college admission before the CBSE, and the ISC results have been announced.

“The exams for the stand-alone courses have already been taken, we are now waiting for CBSE, ISC Class 12 students to upload their results. We plan to start our academic year from August 8,” explained the director, Dr. Rajendra Shinde.

While publishing their merit lists, colleges have also reserved a certain percentile of seats for national board students. Academic timetables align within the colleges. KC College had reserved 30-35% of places for CBSE and ISC students, the principal, Dr. Hemlata Bagla. Jaihind College plans to release its first supplemental merit list on July 27 at 6 p.m.

While administering the ISC and CBSE, Dr Anushree Lokur, Principal of Ramnarain Ruia College said, “If things go as planned, we are aiming to close the admissions process by 29 July. We are also awaiting guidelines from the University of Mumbai.

Mithibai College, which had decided to suspend admissions until all boards release their Class 12 results, also plans to start academic activities from the first week of August.

If colleges were to see a higher rate of applications from CBSE, ISC students, they have the option of approaching the university for additional seats, Mumbai University CoE has said.
