The Chandigarh administration’s Covid ‘war room’ on Tuesday announced a host of new directions as the city began to open after a devastating second wave of coronavirus.
The new measures are:
(i) Strict measures be taken by the police in Chandigarh against violators of the covid protocol, in particular for the non-wearing of masks in Lake Sukhna and in public places.
(ii) All higher education institutions including universities, colleges, etc. will be allowed to open for the next academic session from August 2021, provided that all teaching and non-teaching staff and students have received at least one dose of vaccination, at least two weeks ago and respect of all the behaviors appropriate to the covid. It will be reviewed in the coming days given the prevailing pandemic situation of covid.
(iii) Commercial events such as exhibitions, shows, etc. will only be authorized after prior authorization from the SDM concerned. There would be a limit of 200 people / 50% of the available space and strict adherence to the covid protocol.
(iv) Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh to fight against the congestion of the city during the monsoon.
